My role on the motion simulator project was Captain of the design team. This was an interdisciplinary project completed over the course of the 2024-2025 academic year. It included a rider seat with a maximum weight of 300 pounds and two degrees of freedom for pre-programmed rotations via two IP66 linear actuators. These degrees of freedom allow the guest to experience both pitch and roll sensations.
-
Managed the software and hardware integration for the entire project.
-
Scheduled, coordinated, and facilitated weekly meetings, agendas, workshops, and manufacturing days.
-
Developed the main project interface using Python and PySide.
-
Contributed to the Arduino microcontroller code used to automate the IP66 linear actuators.
Lessons and skills learned from this project include:
-
Managing a project team compiled with engineers from different disciplines.
-
Designing a comprehensive project schedule complete with concrete deliverables and feature sets.
-
Integrating control software with large-scale mechanical assemblies, including high-voltage motors, ensuring alignment with mechanical specifications.
